Authenticity > Perfection
A slightly blurry photo of a vanilla latte armed with nothing but high exposure and a Valencia filter. 81 likes. The next day, your photo of the sunset from your car’s rearview mirror only got 4 likes, even though you expertly paired it with the Amaro filter. But that didn’t matter, because it was fun to take photos and it was fun to share them. The whole platform had a lighter feel because nobody felt like they needed to be something they weren’t, they just popped on to share a photo, and then went about their day.
I see so many people talking about how they wish we were back in those days, and every time I always think “so just do it!” Force those days to come back! Ditch the stress of having to post the perfect thing. Post what you want to because it’s fun, or because you really liked a specific photo. We’re all humans behind the business, not robots, so our social media should reflect that! Staying on brand is important, but that doesn’t mean you need to hide who you are. The idea of “too perfect”, “cookie cutter” social media doesn’t need to exist. Showing the authentic person behind the business, behind the screen, is what everyone wants to see. And it’s more fun anyway!
